This Viking Seax Dagger is made from durable carbon steel and comes with a genuine leather sheath and leather-wrapped handle. The blade has a beautiful straight-edged shape which has been inspired by the historic seax. The leather sheath has belt loops for easy attachment and hands-free carrying.
Historical Inspiration
The seax, also spelled sax, was an important knife in Northern Europe from around the 5th to 11th centuries. It was used by people from different times and served many daily purposes, like cutting rope, working wood, preparing food, and other general tasks. Larger one’s could also be carried as sidearms. The seax became especially closely known with the Saxons, whose name is linked to this distinctive type of knife.
Broken-Back Seax Design
This Seax Knife has the famous broken-back style, where the spine travels straight from the handle before making a clear angled turn toward the point. Unlike modern curved knives, this gives the blade a strong, simple geometric look. One famous historical example is the 10th-century Seax of Beagnoth, discovered in the River Thames in 1857 and known for its inscription using the Anglo-Saxon runic alphabet.
Leather Sheath & Practical Carry
The genuine leather sheath is designed to protect the blade when it is not being used and includes leather loops for attaching it to a belt. The leather-wrapped handle gives a traditional look and comfortable grip for display and costume use. This Viking Knife is well suited for Viking and Anglo-Saxon costumes, historical reenactments, LARP, theatre, cosplay, medieval displays, and collectors.
Care & Maintenance
- Wipe the steel blade with a clean, dry cloth after use.
- Apply a light coat of suitable oil from time to time to help protect the steel from rust.
Note: Each piece is individually handcrafted, so differences in the leather texture, stitching, surface finish, and steel appearance may occur.
