“Guiron the Courteous” 14th Century Knightly Visored Bascinet 16 gauge

Imagine a fully armored knight charging towards his opponent with an old-style great helm, ready to strike with full force. Now, picture that same knight with a visored bascinet – an even better and more versatile helmet! Our reproduction is directly inspired by the famous relief from Palazzo del Bargello in Florance and by a similar example found in a manuscript from France: BNF Nouvelle acquisition française 5243 45r, 74v, 48r, DATE: 1370-80.

It was worn by fully armored knights and featured a hinged visor for offering extra versatility to the knight who could now refresh himself and drink by simply opening the visor, which was impossible with the old-fashioned great helm. Our reproduction is ideal for reenactments and 14th-century fully armored knight costumes.

Handmade from 16 gauge MILD STEEL. This helmet with an inner circumference of 68 cm (before liner attachment) will fit most head circumferences from about 58cm to 61cm, depending on the shape of the wearer’s head. If you desire to wear an additional padded cap, then measure your head circumference while wearing it. (The adjustable genuine LEATHER LINER already attached inside the helmet is often enough for most adult male heads). A leather chin strap keeps it in place battle after battle.

The total height is about 29 cm, the inner width at ear level is about 20 cm, and the inner depth from front to back at eye level measures about 27.9 cm. The eye slits measure about (8.5×1.5) cm. Weighs about 4 Kg and 920 grams. Note: This product is carefully coated with a layer of oil when packaged that acts as a temporary (protective) layer against corrosion (rust), which can easily be wiped off using any oil remover or even a dry cloth.
