The Kusnacht Brigandine stands as one of the most iconic examples of 14th-century European body armor, named after the famous piece discovered in a Swiss castle near Küsnacht. Unlike earlier mail-based defenses, brigandines offered knights and men-at-arms a flexible yet formidable protection, making them highly popular throughout Bavaria, Switzerland, and beyond.
Our reproduction remains faithful to this legacy. Constructed with 18-gauge steel plates riveted on the inside of a durable genuine suede leather shell, it mirrors the authentic build of the originals. The rows of steel plates hidden beneath the rich black suede provide excellent defense, while the riveted pattern adds to its striking Gothic aesthetic.
Weighing approx. 6.72 kg, this brigandine provides a balanced combination of durability, comfort, and mobility, making it suitable for tournaments, SCA combat, jousting, or historical reenactments. Its adjustable leather side straps ensure a customizable and secure fit for warriors of different builds.
This brigandine not only functions as protective armor but also reflects the prestige once associated with noble knights and seasoned soldiers of the 14th century
