The Bascinet Helmet rose to prominence in the late 13th century and quickly became the favored helmet of knights and men-at-arms throughout the 14th century. Distinguished by its pointed form, it was made to deflect sword strikes and arrows, while the hinged visor offered improved facial protection without limiting vision or breath ability.

This Bascinet Helmet captures the authentic visored bascinet (klappvisor) design, completed with a pivoting visor & secured by side hinges. The face plate is has riveted bands, fitted with a wide eye slit and breathing holes for airflow.

Inside, the Bascinet Helmet has a stitched leather suspension liner that is fully adjustable, paired with a leather chin strap and buckle for a secure fit. Weighing approximately 3.1 kg, it balances protection and wear ability, making it practical for reenactments, SCA combat, LARP events, or display.

Historically accurate in both form and use, the Bascinet Helmet was often worn over an arming cap or chainmail coif, offering full head protection and adaptability in battle. It remains one of the most iconic helmets of the Hundred Years’ War era.
