Medieval Steel Sabatons – Articulated Foot Armor : These steel sabatons are inspired by late medieval European foot armor, to protect the feet while allowing natural movement during walking or combat. Historically worn by knights from the 14th to 16th centuries, sabatons formed the final layer of full plate armor, shielding one of the most vulnerable areas on the battlefield.
Crafted from 18 gauge mild steel, these medieval sabatons are perfect in terms of protection, weight and mobility. The steel plates are shaped and riveted to create articulated lames, for foot flexibility with each step. This articulation makes them suitable not just for display but also for active use.
Material & Construction : The sabatons are made from 18 gauge mild steel, a thickness commonly used. This gauge gives excellent durability and remains light enough for extended wear. Mild steel is known for its toughness, resistance to cracking, ease of maintenance, so is ideal for functional sabaton armour used in training or events.
Secure leather ties are included, allowing the sabatons to be fastened to arming shoes or boots. This traditional method helps keep the foot armor stable during movement and ensures a proper fit.
Historical Use & Modern Applications: Historically, sabatons protected feet from cuts, blows and trampling during battle.
Today, these sabatons are ideal for:
- Medieval and Renaissance themed combat sessions.
- LARP and stage combat
- Armor displays and collections
- Completing a full plate armor kit
