This Scottish Broadsword is a historically inspired replica which is based on the famous 1828 basket-hilt claymore used by Highland regiments. It shows traditional craftsmanship and has a beautiful look of the heritage of Scotland’s martial past.Â
The sword has a steel blade with dual fullers for better balance and less weight. These fullers were commonly used on historical swords so that they can be easily handled and used. The brass basket hilt is the most eye-catching part of this sword, it has an enclosed hand guard shape for both protection as well as for decoration. The brass gives it a regal look and is very striking to look at when displayed, and naturally doesn’t rust so is easier to maintain. It will develop a patina with time which will give the word a more authentic look.
Basket-hilted swords became popular in Scotland during the 17th – 19th centuries, among Highland soldiers. This design came from earlier European swords, like the medieval broadsword, and later became a symbol of Scottish look. The enclosed guard style also influenced the medieval knight broadsword.
This sword has a polished steel scabbard with suspension rings, so it is perfect for wall display, wearing it at ceremonies or even stage use. As a scottish basket hilt broadsword, it is suitable for collectors, heritage enthusiasts, stage use, and historical presentations.
This Scottish Broadsword is intended only for display and stage purposes and is not suitable for combat
