This handcrafted bone stylus is an authentic Roman Stylus. It is inspired by writing instruments used in Roman and medieval history. Made from ethically sourced natural bone, it is polished to a smooth, slightly glossy look that shows the actual coloration of the material. Each piece is unique and different.
During ancient Roman times, wax tablets were widely used for daily writing, keeping records, education etc. This Roman Stylus was made specifically for those uses. One pointed end was used to write letters and numbers into wax-coated tablets, and the opposite end, which was broader and angled, was used to erase mistakes and allowed the tablet to be reused.
It even continued into the medieval period, where similar tools were used by scribes and scholars. As a Medieval stylus, it served not only for writing but also for performing craft work. The elongated, diamond-like profile gave a comfortable grip for use for long periods.
Referred to as a stylus bone tool, this piece shows the design of historical writing instruments. As a bone stylus, it mixes usability with a refined appearance, with being lightweight and easy to handle. It also functions as a traditional Stylus tool for education, or display with wax tablets.
