Open Face Bascinet Helmet – Authentic Medieval Head Protection
Our Open Face Bascinet Helmet, is inspired by late 13th to mid-14th century. Originally evolving from the simpler steel skullcaps called the cervellieres, the bascinet quickly became a favorite among knights and soldiersdue to its protection, visibility, and comfort. Open-faced helmets like this were often worn under a heavy great helm during cavalry charges and removed for close combat for unobstructed vision and breathability.
16-Gauge Steel
This bascinet helmet is made from durable 16-gauge steel, polished to a mirror-like finish that shows the globular crown and pointed apex made to deflect downward strikes. The steel is coated with oil for rust prevention during shipping, ensuring it arrives ready for use. A padded liner of quilted canvas inside evenly distributes weight and enhances comfort, while the genuine leather chin strap with buckle ensures a secure fit. Its open-faced design gives maximum visibility and breathability.
Functional and Historical Accuracy
The tall, globular crown and extended sides of this bascinet show the practical design of medieval helmets. The open face provides unhindered vision, making it ideal for reenactments, LARP, or theatrical use.
