Sabatons, also known as sollerets, were a critical part of a knight’s armor from the 14th to 16th centuries. Designed to shield the foot and toe, these articulated steel coverings allowed knights and men-at-arms to march into battle without fear of crippling blows.

The Gothic style sabaton, with its distinctive pointed toe, became especially popular during the 15th century. The design reflected both battlefield necessity and high medieval fashion, often extending beyond protection into the realm of status and prestige. They were essential in both tournaments and real combat, safeguarding against sword strikes, crushing attacks, and trampling in chaotic melees.

This pair is faithfully hand-forged from 18 gauge mild steel, ensuring both historical authenticity and practical strength. The plates are riveted in an articulated design, allowing natural foot movement while maintaining full protection. Each sabaton is secured with genuine leather straps and buckles, making it reliable for both display and use.

Care Instructions

• Storage: Always store your sabatons in a dry place to prevent rusting. Avoid damp basements or leaving them in leather bags for long periods.

• Cleaning: After each use, wipe down with a soft dry cloth to remove moisture, dirt, or grass stains.

• Rust Prevention: Apply a light coat of oil (Machine oil) to the steel surface to keep the finish protected.

• Straps & Buckles: The leather straps and buckles are made from genuine leather. Condition them periodically with a leather balm or oil to prevent cracking and ensure long life.

• Usage: Designed for LARP battles, and stage combat. While sturdy, avoid using them against sharp-edged modern weapons.
