This Shield boss umbo is a vital essential for your viking and medieval shields . These were traditionally mounted at the snare of the shields , the major role of the shield boss was to strengthen the shield it was attached to as well as helped in deflecting the blows of the offenses away from the hand, thereby protecting it.

- Re-oil from time to time to maintain the surface
