This Medieval monk costume is inspired by the simple robes which were worn by monks and friars in the Middle Ages. The design is inspired by the peasant clothing of the early medieval times which was then worn by religious orders with the meaning of humility, poverty and devotion.Â

Saint Francis of Assisi encouraged wearing simple clothing to reject wealth and luxury. The Medieval monk costume became known as monastic habits and were worn daily for prayer and travel. A generously sized hood is attached, for classic silhouette seen in medieval artwork and manuscripts. The costume includes a canvas rope belt, which ties easily at the waist. The fabric drapes naturally and develops a lived-in appearance with use, closely matching how historical robes aged over time.
