This Knights Templar shield is inspired by the medieval heater shield which was used during the Crusades. Made from 20-gauge steel, it gives the right amount of strength and weight for LARP, stage use, costumes, and display collections.
The front of the shield is hand-painted in white with a bold red Templar cross. The white background gives it a better visibility and gives the shield its iconic Crusader look, while the red cross means faith, sacrifice, and devotion, which were strongly believed by the Templar knights.
The edges are reinforced with pure brass edging, which is riveted around the shield for durability and a refined medieval look. On the back, the shield is painted for rust resistance and fitted with a solid wood handle, for comfortable and easy grip.
Historically, this form is known as a kite shield, which was used by Crusader knights between the 12th and 13th centuries. The Knights Templar, a Catholic military order active from 1119 to 1312, were authorised to wear the red cross by Pope Eugenius III in 1147. Their shields became powerful symbols of faith and discipline during the Crusades.
This Templar knight shield is lightweight enough for using it for long hours, and sturdy enough to feel authentic. Whether used for theatre, LARP, or wall display, this the shield of the crusader brings medieval history to life.
