The “Dame Éléonore” Fillet Band draws inspiration from the elegant linen headbands worn by women throughout the 12th to 15th centuries. A fillet is a narrow strip of fabric tied around the head which was one of the most essential accessories in medieval women’s attire. It held hair securely in place and served as the base for more elaborate headgear such as veils, wimples, barbettes, and bunting.
In the 14th century, modesty and refinement were key virtues expressed through dress. Head coverings were symbolic, displaying a woman’s status, piety, and personal style. While noblewomen often embellished their fillets with embroidery, pearls, or metal fittings, women of humbler backgrounds wore simpler versions made of plain linen.
Material & Construction
100% Linen (150 g/m²)
Crafted from pure natural flax fibers, this version replicates medieval textiles with remarkable authenticity. Linen was prized in the Middle Ages for its breathability, moisture-wicking ability, and resistance to dirt. This fabric keeps you cool during long summer events while growing softer with each wash.
Linen-Cotton Blend (87% Cotton / 13% Linen)
A modern, softer alternative that combines cotton’s smooth texture with linen’s crisp structure. This blend drapes beautifully, resists wrinkles better than pure linen, and is especially comfortable for all-day wear.
Both feature a long, strip-style design with four linen ties (two on each end) for secure fastening. The fillet can be wrapped once or twice, tied at the front or back, and layered beneath a veil or wimple.
