The “Bocksten Man” medieval cloak is based on one of the most important discoveries of the European Middle Ages. The original garment belonged to a man from the 14th century whose remains were found in the Varberg bog in Sweden. Because the clothing was preserved in wet conditions, historians were able to study its cut, construction and materials in detail. This cloak is inspired by that historical evidence and is a faithful reproduction.
During the 14th century, Medieval wool cloak were very important outer garments which were worn by travelers, soldiers and civilians. They gave the wearer protection from cold, wind, and rain with freedom of movement as well. The half-circle cut used in this cape cloak design was common in medieval Europe, as it helped the fabric to be draped naturally over the shoulders and fall properly around the body.
This cloak is handcrafted from 100% recycled wool with a heavy fabric weight of 420 GSM. Wool was quite famous in medieval times because it was a great insulator and even stayed warm in damp conditions. The dense wool traps heat and is also very comfortable during outdoor events, cold evenings.
The recycled wool closely resembles historical fabric and feels substantial and warm without being stiff. Its surface is soft so it doesn’t cause itching or discomfort even when worn for long hours.
The classic half-circle cloak medieval cut gives easy movement. Five handmade buttons, from the same wool fabric, secure the cloak at the front. The one-size design makes it suitable for both men and women for different body types.
