This historical helmet is a specific form of kettle hat with vision slits in the brim. It was quite popular in the Holy Roman Empire and German-influenced regions like the modern-day Czech Republic, Hungary, and Poland. The helmet combines mobility and protection effortlessly, rendering it highly sought after and valued in siege warfare, especially by infantry and light cavalry. As you valiantly hold your ground beneath towering castle walls, fending off attacks from above, this kettle hat becomes your trusted, steadfast companion, shielding you from harm while granting a clear line of sight and maintaining breathability. While typically featuring a wider brim, there are examples with a slenderer brim like our kettle helmet. The kettle hat depicted in the BNF Latin 512 Speculum humanae salvationis from 1410 is one of the many such examples of this type of German-style Kettle hat in which the brim is seen to be narrower.
