This large horn spoon is handcrafted from ethically sourced ox horn. Each piece is shaped, carved, and polished by hand to get a smooth surface and natural glossy look. Although polished, the material keeps its organic character, with grain patterns and color transitions formed entirely by nature.
The shades range from deep brown and black to amber, honey and golden yellow. Because horn is a natural material, every spoon of horn is unique. The spoon you receive will be randomly selected from our stock, making each one a small surprise. No two pieces are exactly the same.
In Viking times, horn was used because it was strong, lightweight, and easily available. After livestock were used for food, the horn was not wasted. It was turned into tools, cups, combs, and eating utensils. A viking spoon made from horn was practical, durable and suitable for daily life. Horn was ideal for travel and outdoor use.
This spoon is too just like the traditional ones: simple, natural and functional.
This spoon is suitable for cold and room-temperature foods or drinks. It works well for serving, eating, or as part of a rustic dining setup.
It should not be used for hot liquids. High temperatures can soften horn and damage its surface . Heat may cause warping or cracking.
With regular use, the horn may gradually change in tone or form a richer patina. This is normal and part of its natural aging process.
