Inspired by 15th-century arming garments, this late medieval doublet is built to support both historical authenticity and modern utility. Arming doublets were essential undergarments worn beneath plate armor, offering both padded protection and a secure structure to fasten armor pieces.
Crafted from sturdy cotton canvas with internal padded quilting, this doublet provides durability while remaining breathable. The quilting helps absorb shock and adds comfort, making it well-suited for HEMA training, LARP battles, and living history displays.
The doublet features front, side, and sleeve lacing with brass-tipped cotton cords for strength and adjustability. It also includes black leather reinforcement tabs, strategically placed to allow the secure attachment of plate elements such as spaulders, pauldrons, or leg harness straps. These leather fittings are essential for proper armor fastening, adding both function and authentic detail to the garment.
The adjustable lacing creates a form-fitting silhouette that supports mobility and provides a flattering medieval look. The back panel ensures a snug fit while allowing room for layering over a shirt or under armor.
Whether you’re assembling a knightly kit, stepping onto the stage, or preparing for a tournament, this arming doublet—nicknamed “The Knight”—offers the perfect blend of medieval flair and functional comfort.
Historical Note: During the 14th and 15th centuries, arming doublets evolved into a vital part of a knight’s ensemble. These padded jackets not only cushioned the body from armor chafing but also anchored armor securely using arming points. Our design honors that legacy, combining historically accurate tailoring with modern wearability.
