Crafted from solid antique brass, it has the face of Medusa with her intense eyes, protruding tongue, and stylized spiraling hair, showing the ancient Gorgoneion designs. The antique finish gives it an authentic look, while brass naturally develops a beautiful patina over time. Complete with rivets/screws for secure installation, it is ready to mount on shields, armor, furniture, or displays.
Historical Inspiration
The design is inspired by the legendary Gorgon Medusa from Greek mythology. Feared for her ability to turn anyone who met her gaze into stone, her image became one of the most respected protective emblems of the Mediterranean world. Known as the Gorgoneion, her face was placed on temples, gateways, shields, armor, and ceremonial objects to ward off evil.
Decorative military discs known as phalerae were used with mythological faces, including Medusa. These ornaments decorated armor, horse harnesses, and military equipment, for courage, protection, and honor.
