The Hilda Viking Apron Dress is a faithful reinterpretation of one of the most recognizable garments of the Viking Age, the smokkr or hangerok. Worn by Norse women from the 8th to 11th centuries, this sleeveless overdress often fastened at the front with ornate brooches and worn over a linen or woolen underdress.

The “Hilda” dress combines this heritage with modern enhancements for comfort and durability. Made from 100% recycled wool in a 420 g/m² diamond twill weave, it provides natural insulation and a graceful look like that of historic textiles found across Scandinavia. The fabric’s intertwined brown and white yarns produce a warm, toasted look with a rich woven texture.

This six-panel design, consisting of front, back, and side gussets, allows for natural flare and movement. The broad shoulder straps, stitched firmly at the back and designed to attach to the front with brooches give an elegant profile. (Brooches sold separately.)

The bottom hem is neatly double-folded, mirroring the techniques of traditional Norse tailoring.
