This half hauberk chainmail shirt is a modern recreation of the medieval chainmails which is specifically made for performance and display. It keeps the authentic look of historical chainmail while giving the comfort and practicality you need for long hours of wear.
Traditionally, medieval hauberks were made from iron or steel for protection in battles. Aluminium was not used in the Middle Ages, but today it is chosen for costumes and performances because it is much lighter and easier to manage. This makes this aluminium riveted chainmail perfect when visual accuracy matters more than protection.
Made from 10 mm round rings in 16 gauge aluminium, this shirt uses dome-riveted rings with alternating flat solid rings. This construction gives it the look of real medieval mail with very less weight. The bright natural finish also resembles steel without the heaviness.
The half-sleeve design improves airflow and gives freedom of movement. It helps reduce heat build-up and fatigue, so it is comfortable to wear for long hours under stage lights or during outdoor events. Because aluminium does not rust, this shirt needs very little care and does not need oiling, even in humid conditions.
This aluminium chainmail shirt is ideal for movies, theatre productions, stage performances, costume displays, and LARP. It is designed for non-combat use only and is not intended to provide real protection.
CARE INSTRUCTIONS:
-
Wipe with a dry cloth after use
-
No oiling needed due to rust-free aluminium
-
Store in a dry place when not in use
-
Avoid heavy impact or combat use
-
Wear over a padded gambeson for comfort
Note: Our chainmail is meticulously handcrafted, link by link, from thousands of interlinked rings, delivering exceptional historical accuracy, strength, and unmistakable artistry of traditional methods.
As each piece is assembled entirely by hand, you may occasionally notice a rivet that sits slightly proud, feels subtly looser than others, or even a missing ring. Such small variations are a natural hallmark of genuine, artisan-made mail, just as in the Middle Ages, and reflect the human care invested. Any adjustment, if desired, can be easily made using basic pliers and a spare ring, preserving both integrity and historical authenticity.
