Chainmail Gorget with Blackened Steel & Brass Details

Designed to sit comfortably around the neck and shoulders, this Chainmail Gorget combines blackened steel mail, a padded upper section, genuine leather fastenings and contrasting brass details.

The steel rings are blackened for a dark finish that also helps reduce the chances of surface rust when properly maintained. A decorative brass chainmail edging creates a striking contrast against the blackened steel and gives the gorget a more detailed appearance.

Two Different Ring Constructions in One Gorget

One of the most distinctive features of this gorget is the use of different chainmail ring constructions for the padded upper section and the main chainmail body.

Main Chainmail Body:
Constructed from 9 mm, 18 gauge flat rings with round rivets in an alternating pattern. The flat profile creates a dense, defined appearance while allowing the mail to drape naturally over the shoulders.

Padded Upper Section:
Features 9 mm, 18 gauge round rings with a round-riveted alternating construction over the black padded base. The rounded rings complement the padded section and create a visibly different texture from the flat-ring mail below.

Using two ring styles adds both visual depth and construction detail.

Secure Rivets

Unlike butted mail, where the ends of each ring simply meet, the riveted rings are mechanically secured, making them less likely to open, separate or come apart during movement and wear.

This secure construction makes the gorget suited for historical reenactment, LARP and medieval costume use.

Genuine Leather Straps & Brass Buckles

Genuine leather straps with brass buckles provide an adjustable fastening system, helping secure the gorget comfortably around the wearer.

Because each piece is assembled by hand, you may occasionally notice a rivet that sits slightly proud, a ring that feels slightly looser than others, or a missing ring. These minor variations are natural characteristics of artisan-made chainmail rather than uniform machine production.

If adjustment is required, individual rings can generally be repositioned or replaced using pliers and a suitable spare ring.
