This Bascinet Hounskull Helmet is a historically inspired reproduction of the iconic 14th-century knight’s helmet, famous for its distinctive snout visor. This helmet marked a key transition from open-face protection to fully enclosed, visored defense.
Hand-made from 16-gauge steel, this helmet is both visually authentic and is even practical to be worn so it can be used for events and long wear.
Historical Background: The hounskull bascinet emerged in the later 14th century, especially during conflicts such as the Hundred Years’ War. Knights need better facial protection without sacrificing breathing or vision. The long, pointed visor helped deflect strikes, while the ventilation holes improved airflow.
As part of the broader Bascinet Helmet family, this design shows medieval innovation driven by evolving battlefield needs.
Design & Construction: This helmet is crafted from 16-gauge steel and has a tall pointed dome with a hinged snout visor. The visor includes narrow eye slits and breathing holes and can be raised or lowered depending on use.
