The lamellar scales are inspired by historical Visby finds from Gotland, Sweden, showing authentic medieval armor construction. These plates are designed for assembling lamellar armor, for both historical projects and practical use.
Historically, lamellar armour was used across different regions, including Scandinavia, Eastern Europe, and Asia. It had small overlapping plates laced together to create flexible and strong protection. The Visby-style plates are based on archaeological discoveries from the Battle of Visby (1361), making them a reliable reference for historical armor reproduction.
These lamellar scales come in two material options:
- Mild Steel: Strong and traditional, for authentic builds. However, it requires regular maintenance such as oiling to prevent rust.
- Stainless Steel: Rust-resistant and low maintenance, making it easier to care for. It retains its finish over time, does not require frequent oiling, and is suitable for long-term use in varying environments.
The Visby shape features rounded edges with evenly spaced holes, for easy lacing and proper overlap. These lamellar armor scales are designed for secure assembly, for flexibility and durability once constructed. As steel scales, they provide a solid balance between protection and mobility when used in armor builds.
Perfect for armor makers, LARP enthusiasts, and historical craftsmen, these scales are ideal for creating custom armor pieces, repairs, or full lamellar sets.
CARE INSTRUCTIONS:
- For mild steel: apply oil regularly to prevent rust
- Keep dry and store in a moisture-free environment
- Clean with a dry cloth after use
- Stainless steel requires minimal maintenance
- Avoid exposure to water for mild steel
Note: Each scale may show variations in finish and texture due to the manufacturing process, adding authenticity to the overall look.
