Bring rustic authenticity to your kitchen and dining table with this handcrafted Ox Horn Spoon, which shows the true utensils of early medieval kitchens. Crafted by hand and polished, it shows the pattern of genuine ox horn, for a visual appeal and a comfortable dining experience.
The processing of horn into kitchen utensils was challenge. Through heating in a controlled manner, the horn could be moulded and a variety of utensils could be shaped. A great advantage of using horns as utensils in kitchen over other substances was their flavour neutrality so it did not effect the taste of the food prepared.
The curved bowl is great for enjoying soups, stews or porridge and the contoured handle helps in a secure grip. The spoon retains the true look of historical eating utensils which were once found in Viking, Saxon, and European households. Such spoons were common across Norse settlements between the 9th and 11th centuries, because of their practicality and simplicity.
Each horn spoon is unique due to the horn’s natural nature.
In addition to historical dining, it can be used for rustic picnics, medieval markets and heritage kitchen displays. Natural horn utensils are also gentler on delicate wooden or clay bowls, reducing scratches and increasing the life of your tableware.
