The Haithabu Klappenrock Kaftan is made from 100% recycled wool for outdoor wear. Wool naturally helps retain warmth in cool weather. The coat is finished with diamond twill trim made from 80% wool and 20% nylon, adding texture and a rich decorative detail to the garment.

Diamond twill was a skilled weaving pattern used in early medieval textiles, including wool garments associated with Viking Age Scandinavia. Its repeating diamond design was for texture and visual look, while finely woven patterned textiles could also reflect the skill, wealth, and status of the wearer.

Inspired by Haithabu & Birka

The design draws inspiration from Viking Age clothing from settlements like Haithabu (Hedeby) and Birka. During the 9th-11th centuries, wrapped outer garments and kaftan-style coats were worn across Scandinavia and Baltic region. Rich fabrics, woven trims, and carefully finished clothing also showed the wealth.

Traditional Wrap-Front Design

This Viking Klappenrock Coat has an overlapping front of a wrap-style kaftan. The front can be secured with a belt, so that you can adjust the fit and keep the coat closed in cold weather. Its wide sleeves and straight cut provide room for layering without making the garment feel uncomfortable. It can also be worn without a belt and kept open for freedom of movement and preference.
