Our linen medieval coif, is inspired by the staple head coverings which were worn by peasants, travellers between the 13th and the 15th century. Simple and practical, this cap protected the head, kept hair in place, and even gave comfort beneath a helmet or chainmail hood.
Crafted from linen , with even the linen cotton blend as option , this medieval coif is lightweight, breathable, and comfortable for long hours of wear in both warm and cool climates. The natural linen fabric gives durability while giving an authentic medieval look, which makes it perfect for LARP, SCA, Renfairs and costume events.
Linen was one of the most common fabrics in the Middle Ages, because it was strong, cool and easy to wash. Unlike wool, which was warmer and heavier, linen helped keep the wearer comfortable in summer and worked well as an underlayer in winter. Because it absorbed sweat and dried quickly, it was the preferred fabric for headwear, shifts, and undergarments worn close to the skin.
For Linen Cotton Blend of the medieval coif, the cotton reduces heavy creasing and makes the fabric easier to wear. It is comparatively softer and more comfortable to wear for modern use.
This medieval hood has ties that secure under the chin, keeping the coif in place during movement. Its neutral tones look great with a wide range of medieval clothing.
