Medieval Chainmail Skirt 6 mm Riveted Construction
This chainmail skirt is a handcrafted piece to protect the hips and thighs while allowing full freedom of movement. It is made using 6 mm flat rings in 18 gauge mild steel, with round rivets and reinforced with alternating flat solid rings.
The smaller 6 mm ring size creates a tight and dense weave, for greater durability and better coverage compared to larger ring mail. This dense structure reduces gaps between rings, increasing resistance to cuts and maintains flexibility.
Historical Use & Design: chain mail skirt were commonly worn by knights, infantry, and warriors as additional lower-body protection, layered over padded garments or worn beneath plate armor. They were useful for defending areas not fully covered by leg harnesses.
The riveted construction of this chainmail armor ensures that the rings remain securely closed under stress, making it more durable than butted mail.
Fit & Versatility: Available in sizes M, L, and XL. Its flexible drape gives natural movement when walking, kneeling, or fighting, making it practical for long events and active use.
CARE INSTRUCTIONS:
-
Keep the chainmail dry when not in use
-
Apply a light coat of oil occasionally to prevent rust
-
Wipe with a dry cloth after each use
-
Store in a cool, dry place
-
Avoid exposure to moisture or humidity
Note: Our chainmail is meticulously handcrafted, link by link, from thousands of interlinked rings, delivering exceptional historical accuracy, strength, and unmistakable artistry of traditional methods.
As each piece is assembled entirely by hand, you may occasionally notice a rivet that sits slightly proud, feels subtly looser than others, or even a missing ring. Such small variations are a natural hallmark of genuine, artisan-made mail, just as in the Middle Ages, and reflect the human care invested. Any adjustment, if desired, can be easily made using basic pliers and a spare ring, preserving both integrity and historical authenticity.
