These Early 15th century pauldrons are crafted from durable 20 gauge mild steel for reliable shoulder protection with good mobility. The front has a polished mirror-like finish for an authentic look, while the back is painted black to help protect against rust and corrosion. Each pair is fitted with genuine leather straps with multiple adjustment holes and sturdy steel buckles, for a secure and comfortable fit during movement.

Inspired by Transitional Medieval Armor

During the late 14th and early 15th centuries, knights began adding steel plates over their chainmail as weapons became more powerful. One of the first pieces developed was the simple shoulder plate, to protect the shoulder from direct blows while still allowing freedom of movement. These are single-plate shoulder caps (categorized as simple spaulders or light pauldrons). These early shoulder defenses later evolved into the larger articulated pauldrons seen on full plate armor. This design faithfully recreates that important stage in the development of medieval armour.

Lightweight Protection with Historic Design

These medieval shoulder pauldrons use a single curved steel plate to cover the top of the shoulder. This design gives great mobility while protecting one of the body’s most exposed areas. They can be worn over a gambeson, arming jacket, chainmail hauberk, or attached as part of a larger armour harness, making them suitable for historical events, LARP, cosplay, theatre use, Renaissance fairs, and display.

Care & Maintenance

• Wipe with a soft, dry cloth after use.
• The pauldrons arrive lightly coated with protective oil to prevent rust during shipping and storage. Wipe away excess oil before first use.
• Apply a light coat of oil occasionally to maintain the polished steel finish.
• Store in a cool, dry place away from prolonged moisture.

Note: Each pair of medieval shoulder armor is individually handcrafted. Minor variations in polish, hammer marks, finish, and leather colour are natural characteristics.
