Butted Chainmail Shirt with Coif

This Butted Chainmail Shirt with Coif includes a half-sleeve chainmail haubergeon and a matching coif, for protection for the head, neck, shoulders, and upper body. Constructed from 10mm butted round rings made of 16gaugemildsteel, it is great for LARP, stage performances, cosplay, Renaissance fairs, displays, and costume wear.

Durable 10mm Rings & 16 Gauge Construction

The 10mm ring diameter gives flexibility, allowing the mail to drape naturally over the body while giving the appearance of medieval chainmail. The 16 gauge wire is not excessively heavy, so it is comfortable for extended wear.

Unlike riveted mail, butted rings are easier to maintain and repair, making them a practical choice for costumes, theatrical use and light-contact activities where comfort and affordability are important.

Inspired by Medieval Chainmail Armor

Chainmail was one of the most widely used forms of personal protection as mail armor protected against cuts with allowing mobility compared to plate armor. The addition of a coif helped shield the head, neck, and shoulders.

This Medieval chainmail set has that similar historic design, combining a classic half-sleeve haubergeon with a matching coif to recreate the look appearance of traditional mail armor.

Three Finish Options

Natural Finish
Features the authentic look of untreated mild steel. This finish develops a traditional medieval look and requires occasional oiling to help prevent rust and maintain the steel.

Blackened Finish
Provides a rugged, battle-worn look with a dark protective finish. It requires minimal maintenance and gives the armor a distinctive appearance.

Zinc Polished Finish
Coated with zinc for corrosion resistance with a bright, polished look. This version requires very little maintenance and provides a clean, reflective appearance.

Built for Costumes, Stage & Collection

This chainmail armor is ideal for LARP, Renaissance fairs, theatre productions, cosplay, historical displays, museums, collectors, and medieval-themed events.

Note: Each butted mail armor is meticulously handcrafted, link by link, from thousands of interlinked rings, delivering exceptional historical accuracy, strength, and unmistakable artistry of traditional methods.
As each piece is assembled entirely by hand, you may occasionally notice a rivet that sits slightly proud, feels subtly looser than others, or even a missing ring. Such small variations are a natural hallmark of genuine, artisan-made mail, just as in the Middle Ages, and reflect the human care invested. Any adjustment, if desired, can be easily made using basic pliers and a spare ring, preserving both integrity and historical authenticity.

Q: What is included with this chainmail set?

A: The set includes one half-sleeve chainmail shirt (haubergeon) and one matching chainmail coif.

Q: What size are the rings?

A: The armor is constructed from 10mm butted round rings made from 16 gauge mild steel.

Q: What are the advantages of butted chainmail?

A: Butted chainmail is lighter, more flexible, easier to repair, and more affordable than riveted mail.

A: Natural offers an authentic steel appearance but requires occasional oiling. Blackened provides a rugged dark finish with low maintenance, while Zinc Polished offers a bright, corrosion-resistant finish with minimal upkeep.

Q: Does the Natural finish require maintenance?

A: Yes. Since it is untreated mild steel, it should be lightly oiled periodically to help prevent rust.

Q: What activities is this chainmail suitable for?

A: It is suitable for LARP, cosplay, Renaissance fairs, theatre productions, historical displays, museums, collectors, and costume events.

Q: Is this butted chainmail intended for heavy combat?
