This handcrafted belt pouch takes its inspiration from the personal purses worn by townsfolk, traders, and travelers in late medieval Europe. Before the invention of pockets, such pouches were essential accessories, keeping coins, keys and other small valuables safe while leaving the wearer’s hands free.
Made from 3 mm thick genuine leather, the pouch is both durable and supple, designed to withstand regular use. Over time, the leather develops a rich patina, adding to its authentic medieval character. The front is adorned with an antique brass disc ornament, a decorative touch echoing the metalwork styles seen in 14th–15th century European crafts.
The secure swing clasp in antiqued brass ensures that the contents remain safe during travel or bustling market days. The pouch is designed to slide easily onto most medieval-style belts, making it both a practical and historically fitting accessory.
Historically, such pouches were not merely utilitarian but also carried social significance. The presence of decorative fittings indicated craftsmanship and could reflect the status of the wearer. Merchants relied on similar designs, whether journeying between towns, visiting fairs, or engaging in long travels.
