Historical Inspiration
This Late Medieval Gambeson recalls the padded arming garments of the Late Middle Ages, when steel pauldrons and spaulders dug painfully into the collarbone and shoulder joint. Armorers answered with mahoitres: fabric at the top of the sleeve gathered, pleated and padded into a dome that cushioned the steel and kept it off the bones.
The Gambeson Doublet: Material and Features
This Late Medieval Gambeson is made from heavy cotton canvas with vertical channel quilting and three layers of multilayer fiber padding. The puffed shoulder caps support your armor, while the fitted sleeves slide easily into the arm harness. A high, stiff standing collar protects the throat and cushions a steel gorget or mail aventail.

- 3-layer padding: dense, comfortable protection under plate or mail
What’s included: One Late Medieval Gambeson.
